19 seats up for grabs at 2017 Rockingham elections

ROCKINGHAM — Candidates will vie for 19 open seats, including for both school and municipal positions, at the 2017 annual elections in Rockingham.

The deadline to file nomination petitions will be at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 30, with a minimum of 30 signatures, according to a notice from the municipality.

The Rockingham Town and Rockingham Town School Annual Meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday, March 6 at the Bellows Falls Opera House. The annual election is scheduled to follow on March 7, with polling hours from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Masonic Temple, 66 Westminster St. in Bellows Falls.

The Bellows Falls Union High School (BFUHS) Annual Meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22 at BFUHS.    

The deadline to register to vote in the annual town meeting will be 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 1. The deadline to register to vote for the BFUHS Annual Meeting will be 5 p.m. February 17.  

The last day to file an article petition, signed by 5 percent of the registered voters to be included in the town meeting warning, will be at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19. A minimum of 168 signatures from Rockingham registered voters will be required.

Positions available for the March 7 election include the following seats:

— One town moderator seat, 1-year term, currently held by Michael P. Harty

— One selectboard seat, 3-year term, held by Peter Golec

— One selectboard seat, one year of unexpired term, held by Susan Hammond

— Two selectboard seats, 1-year term, held by Ann DiBernardo and Stefan Golec

— One lister, 3-year term, held by Paul Noble    

— One grand juror, 1-year term, held by George Kuusela

— One town agent, 1-year term, held by L. Raymond Massucco

 — Two trustees of public funds, 3-year terms, with one empty seat and one seat held now by Doreen Aldrich

— Two trustees, Campbell Fund, 3-year terms, with one empty seat and one seat held now by Brenda Doherty

— Three trustees for the public library, 3-year terms, held by Doreen Aldrich, Carol Blackwood, and L. Raymond  Massucco                                                                                     

— One town school moderator, 1-year term, held by Michael P. Harty

— One Rockingham school director, 2-year term, held by Sherry Arvin

— One Rockingham school director, 2-year term, held by Margo Ghia

— One BFUHS No. 27 director, 3-year term, held by James McAuliffe
