School district to offer late bus next week
SPRINGFIELD — The Springfield School District is set to offer a “pilot” transportation program for students participating in after-school activities starting next Monday, Feb. 13.
The afternoon activities bus will provide students with increased access for after-school programming courtesy of the school, according to an announcement on the Springfield School District Facebook page.
“For years, we have wanted to provide students increased access to after-school programming, but we have often found the lack of school-provided transportation to be an obstacle for some families,” the announcement stated. “In light of that fact, the district will be piloting a late bus run through the end of the school year.”
The late run will pick up students first from Springfield High School at 4:30 p.m., and then from Riverside Middle School at about 4:45, with drop-offs at eight different locations around town. For the time being, the bus will only run Monday through Thursday, and will not run during school vacation weeks, limiting its availability to All-4-One students during those periods.
A list of locations and times have been sent to parents, and will be available on the district website and Facebook page.
“The next few months will be a pilot. At the end of the year, we will assess the success and decide about the program’s future,” the announcement stated.
