2 inmates in custody, charged with escape

Lauryl Ayotte-Hastings was taken into custody Sunday by the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department and returned to the Sullivan County Department of Corrections. The 26-year-old, along with 22-year-old Sara Witham Lapointe, failed to report back to jail from work release last Wednesday, resulting in a public notification from the department of corrections to be be on the lookout for the two offenders. LaPointe was taken into custody on Thursday.

Ayotte-Hastings was sentenced on April 13 in Sullivan County Superior Court to 12 months in the Sullivan County House of Corrections for violation of probation charges. LaPointe was sentenced in the 5th Circuit Court - Newport District Division to 12 months at the house of corrections on Dec. 20, 2016, all according to court documents.

According to Assistant Superintendent Douglass Roberts, both women have been charged with escape. LaPointe is being held on $75,000 cash bail for the charge while Ayotte-Hastings is being held on $100,000 cash bail.
