Fall has certainly arrived if the morning and daytime temperatures are an indicator. Throw in a couple of mornings of frost and that's the fall clincher.

Saturday, Oct. 5, however, was a perfect day with lots of sunshine, which fit in perfectly with Homecoming Day at Newport High School before the largest crowd of the season.

The three speed bumps on Water Street in Claremont have also been removed so that street is now prepared for the first snowstorm.

If you're looking ahead a bit, Daylight Saving Time kicks in at 2 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 3. Folks will be able to enjoy an extra hour of sleep that night but on March 8, 2020, it will be time to reverse the change by setting clocks ahead for one hour, thus losing an hour of sleep that night when Standard Time returns.
