NEW LONDON — The Colby-Sawyer women’s cross country team won Saturday’s 2nd Annual Charger Invitational held at the Morris Trail.
Colby-Sawyer placed five runners in the top-10 to score 25 points and take the crown. Plymouth State was second with 51 points. Saint Joseph’s College of Maine finished third with 67 points, while Norwich had 84 points for fourth place. Northern Vermont University-Lyndon was also represented in the field but did not receive a team score.
First-year Zoe Utton (Charlestown, N.H.) set a course record with a time of 20:12.51 to take the individual title in a race that featured 56 runners.
Not to be outdone, first-year Shannon O’Connell (Peabody, Mass.) was second overall coming in right behind Utton at 20:22.68.
Senior Alison Fairbairn (Dover, N.H.) earned sixth place points with a time of 21:34.71, while senior Hannah Barrett (Topsfield, Mass.) was two spots behind at 21:38.79. Junior Amanda Boyd (Dedham, Maine) rounded out the Chargers’ top-5 with a time of 21:51.67 to earn 10th place.
Senior Megan Spainhower (Northwood, N.H.) clocked in at 22:47.47 to finish 18th, while first-year Emily Carrigan (Wenham, Mass.) was 21st in a time of 23:03.18.

Colby-Sawyer also welcomed back cross country and track and field alumna Kylee Parker ’17.
The Chargers will return to the course on Sept. 21 at Bowdoin.
