NEW LONDON — Guess the date when ice out will occur on Lake Sunapee and be eligible for a one- third split of the proceeds.
That’s the basis of the second Annual Ice Out Raffle being run by the Lake Sunapee Region Chamber of Commerce and the Lake Sunapee Protective Association.
Both non-profit organizations will receive one-third of the net proceeds, with the final third going to the person who guesses the correct date. Multiple same date selections will be further entered into a randomized selection process.
Not familiar with ice out? On Lake Sunapee, it is the ability to navigate from one end of the lake to the other. As is tradition on Lake Sunapee, ice out will be declared by the Richard Osborne Family.
Chances can be purchased on-line at LakeSunapeeRegionChamber.com. A single guess costs $5 and five guesses can be purchased for $20. Purchasers must be 16 years or older. The deadline to purchase guesses is March 27.
To help you out, there is also a link on the chamber’s Ice Out Raffle page to LSPA’s ice out data dating back to 1879, the first year the LSPA began maintaining such data.
