NEWPORT — On Wednesday, Oct. 23, the Town of Newport’s Economic Development Office hosted a job fair at the Wheeler Gymnasium.

An estimated 425 positions were available for the 100 job seekers who came from as far as Portsmouth to Springfield, Vt.

Of the 30 businesses that came on Wednesday, a few notable Newport companies including Sturm, Ruger and LaValley Building Supply were in attendance.

Early feedback indicated success for several businesses as one nearly ran out of applications and another reported giving out 86 pieces of material.

This was the second job fair hosted by the Town of Newport’s Economic Development Office in 2019. Between the two events, 46 different businesses and approximately 200 job seekers came to Newport.

Planning for a job fair in spring 2020 is already underway. Visit www.newportnhworks.com to learn about upcoming job fairs in Newport.

The Town of Newport’s Economic Development Office would like to thank the Newport School District, First Baptist Church of Newport, Newport Area Chamber of Commerce, Lake Sunapee Region Chamber of Commerce, Newport Police Department, and each of the 30 businesses for their help with the event.
