The Little Red Schoolhouse

THE LITTLE RED SCHOOLHOUSE in Newport recently had a visit from Donna Menard of North Newport, the great-granddaughter of Lovisa Paul Dodge who attended this little school. Lovisa was also a Regent of the Reprisal Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution from 1928-1930. The Reprisal Chapter opens the school every Saturday in July and August from 1-4 p.m. for the public to visit and get a little history form a member of the chapter. Stop by and see the original desks and blackboard and other interesting items collected over the years. I’m sure Charles Emerson the first teacher in 1835 would be happy to see the interest and pride that people in 2019 are taking in keeping up the repair and appearance for the public today to enjoy, a spokesperson said.
