A Peeps diorama entitled “Peepsboro County Fair!” by Susanne Stillson.

The Library Arts Center is hosting its 10th annual Peeps Diorama Contest in person, with social distancing practices in place, as well as online this year. “We are thrilled to be able to safely have community gather for this year’s contest, it is such a sign of hope to the whole community,” states Arts Center Director Kate Luppold. The contest of dioramas featuring those sugar coated marshmallow chicks and bunnies has become a true community staple.

The Esteemed Peeps Panel of Judges met to look over the 75 shoe box entries filling the Library Arts Center Gallery. This year’s judge panel consisted of returning, and longstanding judge Elaine Frank; Justine Fafara, the new Library Director at the Richards Free Library; Daniel Adam, the new pastor of South Congregational Church; as well as Christine Brenner, Newport’s Economic Development Specialist. There were many laughs and chuckles as the judges examined each entry. “It is hard to keep a straight face when you look at these! There is something about these creations that people can’t help but be delighted!” comments Fran Huot, Library Arts Center Marketing Coordinator. “The staff loves this contest so much, we have also added a “Staff Picks” category to the prizes over the last few years.” adds Huot.

The following are the winners of this year’s contest. To view the dioramas, stop by the gallery April 2-23, Tuesday through Friday, 11-4, Saturdays 10-1, or see them online at libraryartscenter.org. The Library Arts Center is located at 58 North Main Street, Newport, NH.
