The 12 Days of Christmas raffle is set to begin on Monday. Our Claremont satellite site returned 52 unsold tickets this week. We know there are individuals out there who have visited us at the Newport Senior Center seeking to purchase raffle tickets and have been informed all tickets were sold. We now have tickets!
If you are feeling lucky or would just like to have a little extra cash in your pocket, be sure to visit us at the center early Monday morning and get your tickets before the last of the tickets are truly sold. The raffle benefits our Meals-on-Wheels and congregate meal programs because there is no one funding source that pays for the daily meal in its entirety.
The prizes are all cash and are made possible because of generous donors like Goodrich Oil, Mascoma Savings Bank and an anonymous donor for the $500 prizes. Other donors include, Sugar River Bank, Bar Harbor Bank & Trust, Claremont Savings Bank, Hubert’s Department Store, LaValley Building Supply, another anonymous donor and Summercrest Senior Living. Coronis Market and Clark & Mortenson Insurance have also made contributions to the raffle prizes.
The drawing takes place each weekday during lunch at 11:45 a.m. All winning tickets will be put back into the drawing for another chance to win big. The minimum amount you can win is $100. Where can you find such a great investment for only $5? Get to the center now before it is too late again!
One would think that with all of the money we are giving away that Santa is at the Newport Senior Center. Actually, Santa won’t be at the center until Saturday, December 7. Santa is looking for all the good little boys and girls to join him for brunch from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.
Brunch will consist of pancakes, sausage, milk, coffee or tea and fruit. All children 8 and under will receive a small gift from Santa and all kids will receive a candy cane. Brunch with Santa will be $5 per person. Don’t forget to bring your cameras.
Although Santa will only be with us for a few hours, the opportunity to make your own gifts to give at Christmas, just as Santa does, is available right here at your family -friendly senior center. Paint the most adorable snowman centerpiece on Dec. 9 at 1 p.m. Jackie Spaulding will be back to teach us some painting techniques. Class size is limited to 12 students and the class is only $10. All supplies will be provided.
You can’t have Christmas without a Christmas tree and a Christmas tree needs ornaments. What better kind of ornament to have than a handmade ornament. Join Jackie again on December 16 to paint your very own snowman ornament. Class begins at 1 p.m. and is $5.
You asked for crafts and we delivered. Be sure to check out these two designs on the front desk and register today!
Be sure to visit one of our elves at Bar Harbor Bank and Sugar River Bank on Dec. 5, 6, 12 and 13 to sponsor a twinkling clear light that will shine brightly on the gazebo. This is the Newport Senior Center's annual Memory Tree of Lights fundraising event.
Sponsorships are in memory of a deceased loved one or to honor a living loved one. The cost is $3 per name or four names for $10.
