Dedicated Employee

Peter Companion, center front, was honored by the city Wednesday night for over 37 years of service in the Department of Public Works.

CLAREMONT – When Peter Companion joined the city Department of Public Works in 1981, Ronald Reagan was the newly elected President.

“It's quite a thing to commit to doing something for 37 years,” said Mayor Charlene Lovett. In honor of Companion's service to the city the Mayor made a formal proclamation of thanks at Wednesday's city council meeting. Family and friends of Companion stood with him to hear the proclamation and applaud.

Companion began as a meter reader and rose through the ranks to become a truck driver, pipe layers, medium equipment operator and a general foreman. He retired as a heavy equipment operator.

Through his career with the department, he achieved 33 certifications and awards, from Pipe Locating and Leak Detection to Master Road Scholar.

“Peter will be respected for his friendship, true professionalism and dedication to the department for more than 37 years,” Lovett read aloud. “Many thanks for Peter and his family for their sacrifices throughout the years.

“Congratulations, and enjoy your retirement.”
