WINDSOR, Vt. — The Windsor Police Department is attempting to locate the owner of a dog, which was abandoned at the Cumberland Farms parking lot located at 183 Main St., Windsor, Vermont.
On Monday, July 8 at approximately 7:45 a.m., a Jeep Liberty, possibly gold or green in color pulled into the Windsor Cumberland Farms parking lot and stopped. The operator of the vehicle immediately exited the Jeep, opened the passenger side door and allowed a dog to exit the vehicle and run freely into the parking lot. The operator of the Jeep then immediately re-entered the vehicle and drove away, abandoning the dog in the parking lot. Several people in the area observed the abandoned dog and contacted the Windsor Police Department.
The dog was transported to the Lost My Way Animal Shelter in Claremont. The dog was subsequently taken to a veterinarian where it was determined the dog was in poor health. The dog was treated by the veterinarian and currently is resting comfortably at the shelter. The dog is described as a possible border collie/Great Pyrenees mix, which recently birthed a litter of puppies.
The Windsor Police Department is looking for any assistance in identifying the dog’s owner(s) and/or the operator of the vehicle to determine why the dog was abandoned at the Cumberland Farms.
If anyone has any information about the dog, the dog’s owner, or the operator of the Jeep they are asked to contact the Windsor Police Department at (802) 674-9042.
