CLAREMONT — Josh Savage, owner of The Barn Cafe, 39 Main St., has opened a row of electric vehicle chargers on Water Street. The work was completed on March 6, and the charging stations are now available to use by any electric vehicle (EV) driver.
“Claremont doesn’t have EV chargers, and right now, across the country, there is a push to get them put in,” Savage said.
Savage said he doesn’t drive an EV but saw a community need and opportunity to reinvest in the city that has been so welcoming to him.
“There are more and more of these cars being sold,” Savage said. “So, Claremont as a destination isn’t attractive to someone who owns an EV. I don’t even know that it will be a benefit to my business. These chargers are available 24 hours a day and so my thought was that they could help businesses like Ramuntos, Crowbar, Remix, Common Man, and any other places in town.”
He added that the project was scheduled for this past September, but due to backorder issues with an electrical supply panel, it was delayed.
“We’re not on the websites yet, but pretty soon we will be on Google Maps and Blink, so that when people search ‘chargers near me’ we are going to show up.” Savage said.
