Jean F. Weed CLAREMONT — Jean Frances Weed, 82, of Claremont, died Friday morning, Nov. 29, 2019, at Valley Regional Hospital, following a brief illness. She was born at Claremont General Hospital on May 13, 1937, the daughter of Owen J. and Florence C. (Mohan) Murphy. As a teenager, she worked at the Magnet Theatre. Later on, she worked and managed the hot lunch programs at St. Mary Elementary School, St. Mary High School and Stevens High School Annex. After the high school closed, she worked at Valley Regional Hospital as a cook and dietary aide. She enjoyed talking with the patients. She encountered and had many fond memories of the people she worked with over her 28 years there. Jean resided at the Earl Bourdon Center at the time of her passing. She made many friends and enjoyed participating in their social activities. Our mother enjoyed working in her flower gardens, collecting antiques, jewelry and jewelry making, embroidery, along with playing cribbage and reading. She took great pride in her family and their accomplishments. She recently had the honor of knowing that her father, Owen J. Murphy, was recently inducted into the Boston College Sports Hall of Fame. Her family includes daughters, Karen McCusker and husband Peter of Claremont, Beth Morin and husband Norman of North Carolina, and a son Keith Weed and wife Janet of Charlestown; her grandchildren, Jon McCusker and wife Nenette, Allison McCusker, Kyle Morin and wife Jessica, Kara Morin, Amanda Weed, Zachary Weed and James Weed; her great-grandchildren, Joanie and Margarette "Maggie" McCusker, Elsie James Morin, Ethan and Morgan Weed. She is survived by two sisters, her twin Joan Lewis and husband William of Claremont, and Elizabeth Ekberg and husband Robert of Westchester, Pennsylvania. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband James A. Weed whom she married on July 23, 1955, and he passed away on March 3, 1972; her sister Margaret Ferland; nephew Mark Ferland; and great-granddaughter Acasia Morin. At her request, there were no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Mary’s Church on Tuesday morning, Dec. 3, at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
