(BPT) - According to a recent YouGov survey, commissioned by VELUX, 63% of people spend less than 7 hours a week in nature. Nature helps to soothe and calm us, so weave it into the decor throughout your home. Natural light brightens this bathroom, highlighting the clean, modern lines.

A majority of people, 69% of those in the U.S. according to the survey, say access to nature positively affects their mental well-being, so try adding various types of greenery to your interior design. Indoor trees and succulents help create a positive environment.

Bringing in fresh air helps keep your rooms fresh and airy, making this bedroom the perfect place for relaxing and sleeping. In fact, 88% of people in the survey say they would enjoy spending more time in nature, so try incorporating fresh air into your design.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), people spend 90% of their time indoors, so look for ways to bring nature inside. Pieces of art that reflect nature and even floral patterns are easy ways to incorporate the outdoors.

According to the survey, 71% of people in the U.S. say stress levels are lowered with more access to nature. Consider organic materials, like concrete or wood, to create natural spaces that reflect the outdoors.
