The Claremont Country Club will be hosting its club championships this weekend with a full slate of golfers in action.

CLAREMONT — The Claremont Country Club is in the middle of a great golf season and this weekend will feature the club championships for both men and women in three flights.

Beginning on Saturday morning, the championship division will kick off the tournament.

In the championship flight for the men, it will Zach Melcher versus Shaun Morin, with the winner to go against T.J Barber on Sunday after Barber defeated Zach Antonivich.

In the “A” flight, Mark Smolnick will face Jesse Robinson, with the winner going against the winner of the Tom Bunicky versus Tom Rock showdown.

Alex Farris ousted Chad Butler and will face the winner of Tom Martin versus Josh Colfer on Sunday in the “B” division.

On the women’s side it will be Julie Richardson against Sarah Beaudreau while Dawn Zombeck will tangle with Diana Gothier in the semifinals of the championship flight.

The “A” flight will match Marty Wiggins against Ellie Gage while Linda Dolan will play the winner on Sunday after getting past Ann Deiter.

Peggy Davis will face Jane Haley on Sunday for the “B” championship after defeating Lou Ells and Sue Monetta.

With 150 active members in Claremont, more tournaments are on the schedule as the “Pizza and Beer” outing will be starting at 5 p.m. on Monday and is open to everyone.

Upcoming events include The Dodi Belski Memorial Tournament. This is an 18-hole scramble to benefit the Dodi’s Kids Golf Program and will start on Saturday, Aug. 12 at 1 p.m.

On Aug. 19, the Turtle Shack Tournament scramble will take place starting at noon to benefit the Turtles and their several course improvements over the years.

Aug. 25 will be the very popular night-time tournament with glow balls starting around 7 p.m., open to everyone. This tournament fills up fast.
