WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, Vt. — White River Junction Post 84 defended their home field on Monday night, beating visiting Bellows Falls Post 37, 7-2.
A two-out, four-run rally by Post 84 in the fourth helped them separate from Post 37. Kyle Hamilton (2-for-3 on the day) came through with a big two-run double in the inning. Alex Emerson had a base-knock, and another run was plated on an error.
Before that rally, the game was knotted 1-1 through three and a half innings.
Post 84 got on the board first, as Brady Clark knocked in a run on a fielder’s choice with one out. His ground ball to third was fielded by Jack Brown, Brown hurled it over to Dylan McCarthy for a force out at second, but the throw to first was a bit too late, and Post 84 got out to the early advantage.
In the top of the second, Post 37 answered back with a run of their own. Griff Waryas walked, stole second, stole third, and then was knocked in by a double off the bat of Huxley Holcombe to right field.
Waryas scored both runs on the day, as he was knocked in by a single from Darwin Holcombe in the top of the sixth.
Jack Brown added a hit for BF Post 37.
For Post 84, Jacob Colby threw a complete game for the win. He allowed three hits and two runs while fanning six batters.
Rex Hill pitched for Post 37. He went five and two-thirds, allowed six hits and seven runs while striking out four.
Robert Slocum (1-for-3) knocked in Clark with a single for Post 84’s final run of the game in the bottom of the sixth.
Post 8-4 moves past .500 to a 9-8 record, and they sit a full game ahead of Bennington (8-9) in the South standings.
BF Post 37 recorded four errors in the loss, as they drop to 3-15 on the summer.
