Stevens football: Past and present

Here is a photo of the past and present meeting up on the athletic field in more ways than one. Stevens Cardinals head coach Paul Silva, left, poses for a photo with Interlakes head coach Paul Lavigne. While on opposing sidelines nowadays, the two were once working together — Lavigne as the Cardinals head coach and Silva as a teenager keeping stats — on the Stevens sidelines back in the 1970s. Lavigne took his first coaching job at Stevens in 1970 at the age of 23 and served in that capacity for six years. Paul Silva told the Eagle Times concerning Friday night’s victory over Lavigne that he “would be lying if I said it didn’t mean a lot to me getting a chance to coach against a guy I looked up to.” A very special moment in Stevens sports history.
