SUNAPEE — The Sunapee girls basketball team was too much for the visitors from Concord.
The Lakers dominated on both defense and offense in a home game on Monday night. Sunapee established the tone earlymwith a full court press and score the first 10 points of the game. After Concord Christian scored a point on a free throw Sunapee scored the next seventeen points on a combination of lay ups, free throws and three pointers and lead 27 – 1 after the first 8 minutes.
Sunapee kept up the pressure with a smothering defense and prevent Concord Christian from scoring in the middle two quarters. The Lady Lakers were in cruise mode as head coach Stephaine Larpenter used every player tonight and went on to win 64 -16. Sunapee had balanced scoring in the win with Fiona Nolan scoring 15 points to lead all players in the game.
The Sunapee boys basketball team came out fast on defense and offense out scoring Concord Christian 18 – 2 in the first period. The Lakers continued to put on the pressure on defense and Sunapee’s Harper Flint kept driving to the basket in the second period as the Lakers went into half time with a 30 – 10 lead. With two starters on the bench in foul trouble and resting, Concord Christian came roaring back and out scored Sunapee 11 – 5 in the third quarter and suddenly it was a game. The start of the 4th saw the starters return for Sunapee and with some good defense and a few steals that resulted in some quick baskets to push the lead back to 20 points. Both teams then cleared their benches to finish out the game as Sunapee won 45-29. Flint lead all players with 17 points
