WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, Vt. – It came down to the last play, but Bellows Falls Post 37 was on the wrong end of an 11-10 defeat at WRJ Post 84 on Monday night under the lights.
Trailing 10-9 in the bottom of the seventh, Post 84’s Kyle Hamilton singled on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs to secure the win.
Heading into the bottom of the sixth, Post 84 trailed 9-4, but rallied for 5 runs in the bottom of the sixth and the final 2 in the seventh.
Post 37 added three runs in the top of the sixth, as Griff Waryas and Ethan McNamara each had an RBI in the inning.
Post 37 added what they hoped would be the game-winning run in the top of the seventh, as Seth Balch scored on a single by Rex Hill.
Jack Brown got the start on the mound for Post 37. He lasted four and two-thirds innings, allowing just three hits and four runs while striking out two.
Post 37 racked up 11 hits in the game. Balch, Waryas and Dylan McCarthy each had two hits to lead BF. McGregor Vancor added a hit, three runs, and stole three bases. Grady Lockerby had a hit and an RBI.
Hunter Perkins and Alex Emerson each had multiple hits for Post 84. Robert Slocum had two walks and an RBI. Brady Clark added an RBI.
Emerson got the win for Post 84. He surrendered two runs on two hits over one and two-thirds innings, striking out two. Ryan Pepe, Sam Mitchell, and Alex Bushwat all put in work in relief out of the bullpen, steering their team to a close victory.
White River Junction is 5-6 while Bellows Falls is 2-10. BF will travel to Brattleboro tonight for a 5:30 p.m. start and then travel to Randolph Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. WRJ will play at Randolph Thursday at 7 p.m.
